Benefits of child's Pose

Benefits of child's Pose

What actually is a child's pose?
Child's pose or Child's Resting pose is a kneeling asana in modern yoga as exercise. The name comes from the Sanskrit words Bala "child" and asana "posture" or "seat". One of the most effective poses in yoga, it has a simple posture: from a kneeling position, bring the forehead to the floor and relax the arms alongside the body, palms facing upwards.

Steps involved with this pose (beginner pose):

  • Sit on your knees with hips touching your heels' top.
  • Rest your palms down on the top of your thighs.
  • Slowly stretch the arms out in front on the floor and breathe out slowly.
  • Lay your torso down between your thighs and forehead down to touch the floor.
  • Stay in this position for 30 seconds to a few minutes. Breathe slowly to fully relax your body.
  • Inhale gently and return to the starting position slowly.
  • Repeat 2 to 3 times.

Are there other types of child's poses?
Yes, a child's pose has many variations depending upon the flexibility and vitality of a person's body.

  • Wide Child's Pose
  • Child's Pose with arms stretched
  • Bridge Pose with Child's Pose
  • Child's Pose with side stretch
  • Using bolster pillows to rest the head for relieving headache

Numerous health benefits of child's pose:

  • Physical benefits: It gently stretches the entire back, hips, ankles, feet, quads, and shoulders. It also relaxes the front body muscles, including the abdominals and chest.
  • Back pain relief and strengthening: Child's pose is used as back pain therapy to open up, stretch, and strengthen your lower back. If you have radiating pain, consult a specialist first before performing this pose.
  • Helps in digestion: This pose massages internal organs (especially the intestines) as you inhale and exhale, promoting better digestion.
  • Energy provider: It revitalizes the central nervous system by relaxing the muscles surrounding the spine, allowing nerves to communicate with the brain more effectively.
  • Spinal stabilizing: When done after other back extension poses like cobra asana, child's pose stabilizes the spine by providing the opposite action. It also relaxes the abdomen muscles.
  • Spiritual benefits: Child's pose involves gentle breathing techniques that calm the mind, promoting joy, positivity, and peace.

Precautions:
People with knee or ankle issues should practice with proper guidance. Perform this posture only on an empty stomach.

Should be avoided by:

  • People with high or low blood pressure
  • Pregnant women
  • People with severe spondylitis
  • People who have or recently had diarrhea

Child's pose is a simple way to calm your mind, slow your breath, and restore a feeling of peace and safety. Practicing the pose before bedtime can help release the day's worries, while practicing in the morning can help transition from sleep to wakefulness. Regularly integrating Child's Pose into your routine promotes serenity and overall well-being both on and off the mat.
